Dhurandhar – Review: A High-Voltage Spy Thriller That Fires on All Cylinders

Dhurandhar arrives with the swagger of a full-blown Bollywood blockbuster, and the film wastes no time in proving it has the goods. A fictional story rooted in real geopolitical events, this spy thriller blends tension, patriotism, star power, and swagger into a punchy, chapter-driven narrative.

The plot orbits around Hamza Ali Mazari, an undercover operative assigned a high-stakes mission in Karachi. What he must do, how he does it, and the chain reaction his decisions set off—that becomes the core of Dhurandhar’s gripping arc.

Ranveer Singh: A Knockout Performance

Ranveer Singh steps into Hamza’s skin with fire and finesse. His dual-layered character—his undercover persona and his original identity—gives him a wide playground, and he absolutely unleashes. From his rugged look to the razor-sharp dialogue delivery, Ranveer is in top form and anchors the film with intensity and unpredictability.

Akshaye Khanna Steals the Damn Show

If Ranveer is the engine, Akshaye Khanna is the voltage. As Rehman Dakait, Khanna gets one of the best-written characters of his career. His aura, controlled menace, and icy charm light up every scene. His dialogues, already viral on social media, hit even harder in the theatre. Once again, he proves why he is one of Bollywood’s most underrated performers—this role is a reminder that he deserves far more mainstream adulation.

Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Sara Arjun – Strong Pillars

  • Sanjay Dutt’s entry scene is a full whistle-blower moment—mass, style, and that unmistakable Dutt gravitas.

  • R. Madhavan, playing the Chief inspired by Ajit Doval, delivers calm authority. His body language, pauses, and sharp one-liners add weight to every frame he’s in.

  • Sara Arjun, the youngest in the cast, surprises massively. Her character becomes the emotional pivot of the film, and she rises to the challenge with maturity and control.

The supporting cast—Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi, Krystal D’Souza, Manav Goel—adds solid layers to the film’s world-building, making the ensemble feel rich and purposeful.

Screenplay, BGM & Craft

The film begins with slow, intentional “mini pushes,” gradually tightening its grip. Once the characters’ motives unfold, the story takes flight.

  • Screenplay: Sharp, engaging, and structured cleverly through chapters.

  • Dialogues: Easily one of the film’s strengths—punchy, memorable, and perfectly timed.

  • BGM: Powerful and addictive, especially Akshaye Khanna’s entry theme, which is already viral for a reason.

The world-building is meticulous, and the payoff feels earned.

A Solid Commercial Punch

Backed by Aditya Dhar—as director, writer, and producer—under B62 Studios and Jio Studios, Dhurandhar is crafted with full conviction. The post-credit scenes, connective hints, and the big reveal of Dhurandhar Part 2 make the theatre erupt with excitement. The franchise potential is clear and promising, with a date of release.

With the film already in the ₹200 crore club and climbing steadily, it’s safe to say Bollywood finally has a proper, large-scale spy thriller hit in its hands.

Final Verdict

A blockbuster entertainer with gripping tension, terrific performances, and career-best moments from Ranveer and Akshaye Khanna. Dhurandhar doesn’t just entertain—it leaves you hungry for the next chapter.
