Param Sundari: A Cross-Cultural Love Story That’s Sweet but Familiar

Param Sundari is a cross-cultural rom-com that thrives on contrasts—Delhi boy charm colliding with Kerala’s calm. Param Sachdev (Sidharth Malhotra), a restless entrepreneur with a dream of creating a dating app, finds himself thrown into a very personal “proof of concept” when his father (Sanjay Kapoor) challenges him to find his own soulmate before any investment comes through. His swipe destiny leads him to Sundari (Janhvi Kapoor) in Kerala, and that’s where the story takes off.

Sundari isn’t impressed. In fact, she’s practical, rooted, and rather offended when she realises she’s part of Param’s business pitch. Add to that her impending marriage to Venu Gopal (Siddhartha Shankar), and the Delhi boy’s mission is tougher than he imagined. With Juggy (Manjot Singh) adding comic relief—sometimes sharp, sometimes flat—the story unfolds in familiar yet not entirely fresh territory.

Director Tushar Jalota doesn’t aim for novelty here. The film runs on tested rom-com tropes, making the trajectory fairly predictable. Yet, the pacing keeps things moving, and the setting of Kerala works beautifully on screen. The visuals, along with Sachin-Jigar’s music—especially Pardesiya, Danger, and Sundari Ke Pyaar Mein—give the film a breezy, melodic layer.

The highlight is undeniably the chemistry between Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor.

Together, they make the opposites-attract arc believable and endearing. Janhvi, in particular, stands out in her traditional Malayali look, bringing warmth and sincerity to her role. The supporting cast, including Sanjay Kapoor, Renji Panicker, and Siddhartha Shankar, holds their ground effectively.

The humour is light, though inconsistent—some gags work, others feel stretched. The film, overall, stays within safe boundaries. It doesn’t break new ground, but for audiences who enjoy uncomplicated romances with pretty backdrops and pleasant music, Param Sundari makes for a watchable fare.
