Single Papa (Netflix) – Review

Single Papa is a tender, emotionally grounded family drama that quietly challenges conventional ideas of parenting. At a time when stories around adoption and child-rearing are largely seen through a mother’s perspective, this series takes a refreshing detour by placing a father—willing, prepared, and emotionally available—at its heart.

The narrative revolves around Gaurav, played with remarkable sincerity by Kunal Kemmu, a man determined to adopt a child and raise them as a single parent. His journey isn’t romanticised; instead, it is layered with paperwork, societal judgment, emotional uncertainty, and deeply personal sacrifices. The show does well to capture how becoming a parent is less about biology and more about responsibility, patience, and unconditional love.

What works strongly in Single Papa is its tonal balance. The series addresses serious themes—single parenting, emotional readiness, social conditioning—while smartly weaving in situational humour. This comic cushioning makes the show approachable, light on the surface yet meaningful underneath, allowing the audience to stay emotionally invested without feeling overwhelmed.

Kunal Kemmu delivers one of his most mature performances to date. He portrays Gaurav not just as a hopeful father but also as a son navigating expectations and a man discovering companionship organically. His emotional transitions feel natural and lived-in, making his character deeply relatable.

The supporting cast adds solid value. Prajakta Koli brings warmth and freshness, while Manoj Pahwa and Ayesha Raza strike a fine balance between humour and emotional depth. Neha Dhupia adds confidence and clarity to the ensemble, ensuring the narrative never loses momentum.

Beyond individual performances, the series subtly underlines an important message—the role of a father is not secondary. A father’s emotional labour, silent sacrifices, and constant presence are just as crucial in shaping a child’s life.

Final Word: Single Papa is a gentle, feel-good family series with emotional honesty at its core. It may not be loud or dramatic, but it leaves you with warmth, reflection, and a quiet smile.
